Hey! I am Puck Kemper, a third year Creative Technology student. I have a very active student life and I love it. Being active within my study association, my sports association, my study and being board at the Vestingbar has taught me so much. The main thing I learned is that communication is the most important thing within organisations. I believe that many problems can be avoided and fixed if we have the right communication, on all levels. My goal within the university council is to improve this communication, meaning that I aim for the faculty councils, program committees and you, the students themselves. Everyone deserves to have a voice within this university and to know what is happening. So, let’s talk!

Heyy! I’m Muhammad Hamza Riaz and I am a second year student of Mechanical Engineering (bachelor). As my dark hair and height suggest, i am an international student from Lahore, Pakistan. My determination to make the most out of my student life has led me to pursue activism in addition to my studies. In my first year, I was part of four part-time boards promoting internationalization through organizing events and I won four awards at the More Than a Degree Awardshow. In my second year, I worked with the Student Union to develop internationalization projects to counter social exclusion. Now I aim to make positive changes on a policy level. My motivation to join the University Council is to improve the student well being through focusing on education and internationalization policies of the UT and be the voice of all students in the council.

Hey there! My name is Ivo and I am a fourth year Civil Engineering student. Last year, I was in the board of ConcepT, the study association of Civil Engineering, where I experienced that even though we study at a wonderful university, there are important problems to be addressed on the highest participatory level of the UT. Housing of both lectures and students, internationalization and the developments around the 0/15 EC rule are still subjects with its issues where there is room for improvement. In the coming year, I would like to address these issues in the University Council to build the bridge between the students and the council, the bridge between university-wide ideas and of course the bridge between the issues and its solutions.

My name is Thomas Hazewindus, I’m an Industrial Engineering and Management bachelor student. Besides my study, I have been active at my Study Association in several committees during my first two years, this year I am in the board as Secretary and Commissioner of Internal Affairs. I came to the University of Twente because I enjoyed that almost everything at the university is run by students. In my board year, I have experienced how beneficial extra-curricular activism is in the personal development of students. I would like to improve the accessibility of activism for all students by taking the wishes of students more into account in the policy making of the university.

Hey, hello! My name is Lisa Veldman, twenty years old and a first year ATLAS student. Over the past years, I have been part of multiple advisory boards; in high school I was part of the co-determination council and student council. Currently, I am part of the programme committee, and chair of the education committee of the study association Atlantis. I believe that by working hard we, as students, are able to create an opportunity to grow, improve, and learn together. When elected I would like to focus on creating those opportunities, and improving the ones we are already given. In addition, while reviewing and reflecting on new policies, I believe that we should have the students’ well-being as our priority whilst increasing the quality of our university. Other than that, I hope that together we can create an acceptable and open environment for everyone part of and visiting this university.

As a Canadian expat, tech entrepreneur and engineering student, I am running for student council to improve your opportunities to excel at the University and beyond. My main focus will be on solidifying ties between the Dutch and the international community, promoting student entrepreneurship, and reaching further support for the technical Student Teams at the UT. I aim to achieve my goals by bringing together the relevant factions within the University of Twente and form the collaborations that will provide greater opportunities for students like you to thrive. I had to fight for my place at the UT, for getting the resources to launch my startup and for the support to run my Student Team. Hola, this is Saikiran, a mechanical engineering student who fortunate enough to experience the awesomeness of student life at UT. For the past years, I am active at different levels of activism starting from a committee to a board member of an umbrella association. In the first year, I was part of Vesting bar, Indian student association and Connecting hands which made me the most active student in 2018. Currently, I am part of UniTe, an umbrella association for World associations. Throughout the past years, I discovered my passion for an active student campus grows together with the University, which motivated me to join UReka to influence at the policy level of the university. With Ureka I want to be the voice of equal opportunities and healthy/stress-free student life for every one of us. I believe a university should be the place where a student feels comfortable and drive towards their passion as ‘We have a whole life to learn but you can only be a student once’. Let’s do this.

I’m Dries Hopman, a fourth year mechanical engineering student from the north of the Netherlands. Currently I am a member of the faculty council of ET, where I noticed many problems, mainly within the housing, facilities and internationalization have to be tackled on a university wide scale, which is why I would like to join the university council.

Hi, my name is Mumtaz Arafah Endy, a master student of Urban Planning and Management at Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (Faculty of ITC). Studying at the most diverse department in the UT allows me to experience multi-cultural environment and have an in-depth understanding of the internationalization. I am willing to hear the voice from all students and also be heard as an international student. It is great to work on policy plan to ensure this and looking forward to work on it.

Hey, I’m Thomas! I’m a student applied Physics. During my years of study I was deeply involved in all kinds of student organizations. I was responsible for the bar of the student hockey-club DHC Drienerlo, was the chairman of study association Arago and am currently the chairman of the Faculty Council of the Science & Technology Faculty. Due to these (and more) positions I gained a lot of useful experience and valuable knowledge, which I want to use for the University Council. The University Council is in my opinion one of the most important parts of this University. It is the place where students can really make a difference. And I want to make a difference, for you!
